In 2021, the DVSA split the practical vocational driving test into two modules; module 3a off-road exercises and module 3b on-road driving. The content of the test hasn’t actually changed, it’s just done in two steps and the module 3a test has to be passed before a candidate can attend their module 3b test
Another part to these changes is that the module 3a test can now be conducted by an assessor working for an organisation other than the DVSA or a delegated authority. Ian is now qualified to conduct the module 3a off road exercises tests at our own DVSA approved off-road testing area. There’s no need to go to the test station for this element of the practical test, making the off–road exercises that you do as part of your practical test much more relaxed, as you’re doing the test on the same area that you have actually trained on!
Obviously, in the interest of fairness, Ian can’t assess and pass his own trainees, so we have another qualified assessor (who’s also an instructor) to come and assess you and you may see Ian conducting an assessment for other instructors before yours, so there’s no surprises as you know exactly what’s going to happen.
